What steps can a consumer take when the payment is declined by their card issuer?
Some items to affirm with your client so they avoid a missed-payment-fee (MPF):
- The merchant may try taking the payment in-house then posting to the Vcp system (have client provide credit-card over the telephone)
- The consumer may provide new payment information to avoid MPF
- Advise consumer to contact their card issuer and explain:
- the credit-card number is kept on file
- payments with current card on-file have debited successfully in the past
- ask if there are any conditions imposed for (on-line) recurring debit
